Cognitive training in mandated treatment
Covered August 6, 2026
A 10-session group program combining cognitive and goal-management training, tested with 35 participants before and after.
This study tested a 10‑session group program that combined cognitive training and goal‑management training for people in mandated treatment. Thirty‑five participants completed cognitive tests before and after the program. Results showed clear improvements in executive functions—better inhibition, planning, and cognitive flexibility. However, these gains didn’t translate into changes in self‑reported behavior or reductions in substance use. Overall, the intervention strengthened cognitive skills but didn’t meaningfully affect substance‑use outcomes in the short term.
