About the summaries

Summaries are prepared with care, but they are secondary descriptions of other people's research. The original published paper is always the authoritative source, and every summary links to it. Findings reflect the state of the research at the time of posting and may be revised, contradicted, or retracted by later work. Rights to the underlying studies belong to their authors and publishers.

What information this site collects

This site has no ads and no advertising trackers. To understand how many people visit and which summaries get read, it uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies, without following you across other sites, and without collecting personal information — so there's nothing here for you to consent to or opt out of.

It also keeps a plain tally of a few actions on the tracker — starring a school or a professor, setting a change notification, exporting a saved list — so we can tell whether people find the tracker useful rather than only that they loaded it. A tally is all it is: one running total per day, per action, per site people arrived from, with no identifier, no cookie, no session and no record of which page you were on. Two people starring a school on the same day are the number two, and nothing stored can separate them again, by us or by anyone else. The referring site is kept as a bare domain name such as “reddit.com” and never the full address, so it cannot show which page or discussion you came from.

Beyond that, three features involve data you choose to provide:

• Newsletter. If you subscribe to the Weekly Digest, your email address is stored by MailerLite (our email service) and used only to send the newsletter. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
• Reader Queue. Submitting a study or upvoting requires signing in with Google, through the same account used by our companion app, Spare Change (one login works on both). Your name, email, and profile photo are used only to identify your account; study titles, links, and vote counts are stored in Spare Change's database and displayed publicly on this site. Don't include personal information in a submission.
• Email contact. If you email us, we see your address and whatever you send — used only to respond to you.

Embedded Instagram posts are served by Instagram (Meta), which may set its own cookies and collect data under Meta's privacy policy. This site is hosted on Netlify, which may log standard technical request data (such as IP addresses) to operate the service.
